Product Research is the first thing you do after signing up for an affiliate program. Most affiliate programs are free to join and once you join, you have access to the product links to promote. The question is which product do you promote. That is where product research comes in.

As an affiliate your goal is to earn as much commission as possible. While most affiliate programs will only pay you for product sales, there are those which are designed to pay you residual income as long as your customer continue to purchase products. There are different ways to perform product research. The main thing you want to discover, is which product are people searching for? If people are searching for a product, then you can go about promoting that product. After signing up for an affiliate program. Go to the affiliate back office and look at the main category of products they are offering.

On this page, enter the main keyword or main key phrase. Uncheck the box “use synonyms”. This will generate only key phrases with your initial keyword term. Now you can see all the various keyword phrases that people are using to search for information on the topic you want to product product on. On the extreme right of your results, you will see “match type” click on the drop down menu and chose “exact”. The number of searches will reduce. Now you want to write down all the keyword phrases with at least 1500 monthly searches. That is approximately 50 a day. That is good enough, you just want a piece of the pie.

Now you can dig deeper into the keyword phrases you have written down, to find even more specific keywords. If you want to promote a particular product, you can do the same, by typing in the name of the product, to see if people are searching for that product. Follow the same steps and which ever keyword return at least 1500 monthly searches, that is the keyword you want to use in your promotion.

This is just the first part of your research. And once you have a least of keyword phrases related, to your product your are ready for business.
